Kristin Smart Case Update

If you’ve been reading along with Chris Lamberts updates on the Kristin Smart case against Paul and Ruben Flores you know that Chris Lambert (the host of the Your Own Backyard podcast) got called to testify which meant that halted all writing and reporting he was able to do for anyone trying to follow the preliminary hearing on his blog Hallway Blog. You can still find the first 6 days on the blog but after that was when he had to halt all reporting.

They are thinking that the prelims are to last the whole month of August and it’s unknown at the time if Chris Lambert will be back to report on his blog or not – but after some googling I was about to find a few things they have talked about since his reporting has halted.

• According to an article on KSBY they said that one of the cadaver dogs, Cholla, gave one of the strongest alerts the handlers have ever seen when searching Paul’s dorm room. Specifically the mattress and the desk.
• After re-searching the whole building and removing the mattress the dog was brought back into the room and hit on the bed frame and desk again.
• Another article posted by KSBY talked about how a witness stated she had heard Paul Flores discuss Kristin and was quoted saying “Hudson says she was hanging out with a group of people in June of 1996 when they heard a public announcement on the radio asking for information about Kristin Smart’s disappearance. She says Paul used a derogatory term to refer to Kristin and said, “I’m done playing with her and I put her out underneath my ramp in Huasna.”
• Hudson asked their friend about it to be sure but the friend told Hudson that “Paul told tales all the time” and not to worry about it.

Following the preliminary hearing – that again will most likely last the whole month of August – the judge will decide whether there is enough evidence in the case against Paul and Ruben to move forward to trial.
Which we are hoping is the case.

#31 – The Disappearance of Kristin Smart

We already did a blog post about Kristin so we won’t bombard you again – but we DID do a podcast episode about her now because it’s been weighing on Ashli’s heart and head for a while and she wanted to get more information out there and more people to hear her story.

We think her story needs to be heard because we are hoping her case is solved soon.
Kristin has been missing since 1996 and her case is STILL open and active today!

This case really sticks with me – and has for a long time – but there HAS been recent updates kind of and we need to talk about it!

If you aren’t aware of Kristin Smart let me fill you in real fast.

Kristin has been missing since the early morning hours of May 25, 1996. An giant search of the campus turned up few clues but not many. Fellow student and party-goer Paul Flores was the last person to see her and is the prime suspect in this still-open case.
At around 2AM on May 25, 1996 the birthday party Kristin was attending had ended and party-goers dispersed, Kristin included. She was apparently so drunk that she passed out on the neighbor’s front yard. A Few friends and a man named Paul Flores found her and offered to help walk Kristin back to the campus while Paul even allowed her to lean on him for support since she was still tipsy. One man, Tim, said goodnight to the group and let Cheryl, Kristin, and Paul head back to the dorms together.
Eventually, the group of three arrived near the dorms. Cheryl lived further down the block from Kristin, so she asked if Paul wanted to see Kristin safely to her room. Paul agreed to walk her to her room and said goodbye to Cheryl. However, Paul claimed that the two parted ways that night, each going to their respective dorm rooms. Many suspected foul play on behalf of Paul.

Now according to KSBY News there has been some sort of updates!
There was a search at Ruben Flores’ house – who is the father of Paul Flores.
Paul has been the main suspect since 1996 and on March 16 – March 17 a blue tent could be seen set up near the home’s back deck Tuesday morning, a section of lattice below the deck had been removed, and investigators with shovels could be seen removing orange buckets from the area. They also used ground-penetrating radar was used to search around the deck.

This case is still considered ACTIVE and ONGOING.

In 2020 they found “items of interest” having to do with Kristin and Paul but they haven’t said much about that either – but whatever happened recently is intriguing…. especially the digging.

According to another news article by KSBY Susan Flores, Pauls mother, has spoken up about Paul.
She was quoted saying “We have no responsibility for her disappearance and what happened to that young woman, and I’ve said it in a court of law.”
But it’s hard to believe her when all the information stacks up as everything pointing to Paul…. but really, what do we know?
